The Chalet Clermont-Tonnerre is the first of five chalets belonging to Emperor Napoleon III and his entourage in the heart of the Vichy parks, on the banks of the Allier River. Called "Clermont-Tonnerre," the chalet was built in 1863 for Count Aynard de Clermont-Tonnerre (1827-1884), an orderly officer to His Majesty. It was erected at the same time as the neighboring chalet "Villa Marie-Louise," the residence of Emperor Napoleon III.
In the following years, three other chalets were built on "Boulevard Napoléon" (now Boulevard des Etats-Unis). The chalet's most illustrious guest was Leopold II (1790-1865), the first King of the Belgians. He came in the summer of 1865 to meet Napoleon III.
A Gothic-inspired outbuilding was added to the property in 1905. Only four owners have succeeded each other in 150 years, which explains its authenticity and the excellent level of preservation of the floors and ceilings. Today, we welcome you year-round to this historic setting, combining comfort, elegance, and prestige.
